Simple Tarp Wall: Small Heater - Big Garage

Simple tarp wall that helps keep my workshop warm in the winter. The tarp wall effectively reduces the area heated by my small garage heater and keeps the warm air from escaping when the large garage door is opened. I leave the tarp down for the whole winter so needing to use a ladder to raise and lower it does not bother me. I raise it once a year and lower it once a year.

EDM (electric discharge Machining) Machine Walkthrough
I have a problem with the rotary settings. I have allowed the rotary use but when I turn the laser on it either doesn't find it (USB error) or it keeps spinning and doesn't stop (as if it's looking for the home point). So far I have not found any solution to this.
Pushing the gantry up to the y end stop switch will stop it from spinning.
you should sell these!
I have only had a K40 for about a year but K40 Whisperer is great
Anyone watching in 2024?
Thanks for this! I had a friend print me out the file and it worked great as a replacement zipper. I had to use an M3 nut and 18mm M3 screw. But it works perfectly. Glad I didn’t trash my yeti! Shame Yeti doesn’t offer something like this to help their customers.

How To Make Popped To Air Popcorn Salt Stick
Omg this problem has been plaguing me for MONTHS. What a great solution.
Most of the work seems to be figuring out how to make a sifting contraption out of the cage wire and wood to do this. That's the part I'm struggling with right now. Has anyone figured out a site where you can buy something to staple the fencing onto? This idea isn't talked about enough and it's exactly what many people need to do. Thank you for making this video.
Hello, thank you for the information and your video, I also have a laser machine that uses K40 software, and I am oversize the working area , But it requires a large motor power, so I made a gear ratio..After that the laser can run smoothly. But after entering the scale settings I encountered a problem... If I make a square object the results are accurate... But after making a circle object, the results are very weird, this is not oval shape or anything else.. on x Axis the diameter is correct but on y Axis the diameter u correct...
Do you have solution
Can you e-mail what a circle looks like to the e-mail address in the help menu? I am guessing something else is going on with your machine.
@@ScorchWorks thank you.. i Will send the picture..
@@ScorchWorks .I've sent some photos and a description of my machine. I hope you can provide a solution to my problem... thank you and good luck forever
This is fantastic - how have I only just found out about this after all this time?! Thank you so much. 🙂
Just what I needed, Thanks!
Oh MANNNNNN now I have to build on of these now that I've seen it's genius implementation, THANKS, ugh giving me work to do. haha, thanks for this video, I was wondering what I would need to do to clean up this xeriscaping
The zippers on these yeti coolers as are ridiculous Even brand new it is hard to open the lubricant doesn’t do much Sure enough one year in and it’s broken Will not buy a yeti with a zipper again
I didn't have the materials to build the frame out of wood. So I ziptied the landscape fence to the top of an indoor dog kennel. And hosed it off. I let it dry and the wind blew the debris away. I had to pick out a few things by hand but not much.
Honestly, brilliant. I have been using a griddle, it takes SO LONG.
Did you use a CNC router and what do they cost. I know prices vary but I wanted to get one exclusively for puck engraving.
My machine is pretty unique and purchased second hand years ago. Any cost info about my machine would be useless (I paid $1600 which would be a steal for a comparable machine today)
I'm going to use the same method but i will be laying a tarp underneath so i can drag the dirt away when im done.
Super cool! I gotta try this! I just stumbled across F-engrave last night. Did some vcarves with it this afternoon. It worked great. Thanks for creating this tool.
Thank you for your advice! Right now, I wish I had a handy partner, didn’t have health and back problems, weren’t a perfectionist, 4’ 9”, pushing 70, and didn’t have an issue with what was a beautiful yard in Michigan! I have stone beds that are in an L shape, with really cool stones that have fossils, Petoskey stones, sparkly stones, etc. I realized they were growing weeds, baby trees, and roots were coming out. I started to inspect, and found a mess! There is heavy plastic underneath, but huge roots, like trees, grew from somewhere, and poked holes in the plastic, lifted it up, and now I have two layers of dirt and roots intermingled with stones I need to free (and free the big worms above and below the plastic), sift and clean the stones, build up the dirt, level, replace the plastic or use sand or something to lift it higher. I’m breaking my back pulling everything out and cutting long roots with loppers, cutting little roots, moving the worms, trying to figure out what to fill the dirt in with, and looking on You Tube to see what to do. Now I guess I’ll have to build a sifter, sift, wash, level the dirt, put more plastic or paver sand down, and replace the stones. It will take me until the end of the summer! Oh, boy!
This is great, im trying to remove all of the rocks in my yard and this would be a great way to do that without throwing away the soil
It's such an incredible software!! It's working perfectly! (v.0.03) Big thanks!!! You saved my life LOL! Especially it doesn't need to be installed. (Talking about those annoying .msi installers and no admin rights) If I have to find some problems, they are: 1. It costs a lot of memory (around 6GB?) when loading two PDFs (50ish pages)? 2. I hope if there are previous/next page buttons too. BTW, your website is a place where saves all the treasures!
1. You can turn the resolution down to save memory (will result in lower quality image) 2. PageUp PageDown on your keyboard works for previous/next page.
@@ScorchWorks Awesome! Thank you so very much for this app! This is actually saved my time and my brain on comparing the different version of drawings.

Sounds like you need to select "Home in Upper Right" in the "General Settings". This setting is for machines that have the home position in the upper right corner (not in the upper left corner)
Great video. Are you using an electric ceiling heater?
yes
very smart
Perfecto! Thanks.
Thank you so much!
WORKING VERY PERFECTLY...THANK YOU SO MUCH
What did you need to do to get it working for you?
Can you do this with cats?
Best RUclips video I've seen in years. Quick, effective, to the point, done in about just 1 minute. Great job.
I'm having problems... When I pass my Inscape program SVG files everything goes black no matter what color it is in the other app
Try the test SVG file to see it it works. If it does there is probably something going on with the files you create: www.scorchworks.com/K40whisperer/k40_whisperer_test.svg
I must ask, how did you push the first couple teeth together manually?
I don't remember specifically how I did that.
@@ScorchWorks that’s too bad. I tried pushing them together using pliers to no avail
@@LiamLC4 Remember they go together easily if they are put in the correct position. Try flexing rows of teeth the way the would be going through the zipper mechanism (or close to that shape)
How can you start cutting close to the home (upper left of the rail)? Is there a way to do this or it will always start with a space on the left and top of the design?
K40 Whisperer does not add space to the design on the upper left corner. When the machine homes, there is a slight offset to ensure the laser head does not slam into the end stop during raster engraving. If you want to absolutely maximize the cutting area, you can unlock the rail and push the laser head all the way to the upper right.
I need to find some neighborhood kids to sift for me. Thanks for sharing! Maybe I'll hide some gold painted rocks. 😆
I was thinking the same thing as I was pulling out rocks!
This method works great with one addition. Raise one end of the screen up about four feet so the rocks will roll off the screen and pile up at the bottom. Toss the shovelfuls onto the top of the screen and let gravity do the rest. I propped up one end with a step ladder and put a wheelbarrow under the screen to catch the dirt. Worked great.
You are a lifesaver, and just earned a subscriber. Thanks for the video!
Brilliant idea!
Do they make a 3D file for Eric cooler
My problem is I'm getting and image when engraving that's the sizing is off
That is hard to read. Are the vector cut, vector engrave and raster engrave all scaled the same. Or is the raster engrave image scaled different than the vector data.
@@ScorchWorks what's happening is it's swishing the image making it oblong
@@ScorchWorks kind ovaling the image
If you e-mail me the file I can look into it. (e-mail address is in the help menu)
@@ScorchWorks and engravement is bigger that what was made on inkscape
I have a problem, my k40 laser won’t start where I manually set the laser head, when i start my project it jumps 2 cm to the right? Whats wrong? Worked fine last week and now i have to pre engrave everything and then line up my piece on top of that 😫 help 🙈
This is what 3d printing is about! I tried tipping your thingiverse page but it wasn’t set up. Thank you for making the files public.
Nice share man. I have the opposite problem I live where it’s super hot. Anyway my question does this also keep dust out of the other side? I only have a 2 car garages and looking to section off 1/3 of it. I have stuff I don’t want sawdust on and it’s my struggle. I was thinking something like this might work. Thanks.
I don't do alot of cutting wood so I am not sure about the dust. But I am sure it is better than nothing.
@@ScorchWorks Wow!! What a great idea!! We put up foam board to make a small room in the garage to keep it cool using a portable a/c. (vented thru the garage door). Today it’s 106° and running the a/c is useless bc it only gets it to around 92°. Last year we hung tarp and it worked pretty well. (Kept it closer to 78/80°). This year hubs decided to put up foam board and it’s not doing nearly as good a job keeping the area cool. I’d like to redo it. And just hang it along the foam board. When we hung tarp last year we put up ceiling tracking. I added a lot of grommets to the tarp and then hooked them all onto the track. Hubs ripped the tracking down when he decided to put up the 4x8 foam walls. I’d like to do this as I know it will keep it at least 15* cooler like last year when we were using only the tarp. I seen 10ml, 16 and 22 ml tarp. I’m curious what tarp ml and size that you used? 8ft or 9ft x ? I’m looking at 8x10 or 9x12.
@@ScorchWorkscan you tell me what ml tarp you used? I want to get something that’s thick but not so thick that it’s too heavy to attach to the 2x2
I measured the tarp I used. Looks like it is about 6 or 7 mils thick. (.006" or .007")
I had a really big tarp (can't remember the original size) that I cut in half to make the wall.
Genius!
